The inaugural Sipapu SkiBike Rally was held on February 3, 4, and 5 at Sipapu
Ski Area, near Taos, in northern New Mexico.
This is only the second ski area to produce a full-featured skibiking event in
modern times, and is a welcome addition to the Purgatory Festival.
Sixteen riders came to slide over the course of the gathering, and were greeted
by sunshine and fresh powder. The high point was an extraordinary "Enduro" competition
event held at the end of the day on Saturday. The race consisted of 3 laps on a closed
course with a dedicated lift. The terrain included
trees, fast groomers, moguls, powder etc, true diversity to test all-around skills.
A great concept, and great fun!
This is truly a skibike friendly resort, and we were treated with reverence,
the way it should be everywhere! We gratefully consumed the free skibiker dinner
on Saturday eve, and shared a few lies, and beers, with our fellow bikers. Thanks
for the hospitality....
