Race Report by: Cathy Bonang
=Saturday 8-noon registration was held for the racing events. There were 23 entrants for the dual slalom at 1:30. The resort suspended the foot-ski requirement on Lift #1, the 6-pack, for the Festival (use of skis on the lift is a Colorado state law) to accommodate
=The first event was held under snowy conditions, visibility limited, on Upper Hades – which earned its name, as it is hell to get to! Rules were explained; each rider would be timed on the red course and the blue course with one disqualification allowed, best combo score would win. Short snowboard gates were used. The course was pretty fast at the top, leveled off and then picked up speed to the finish – foot skis were a benefit. Entrants and times are listed below..
=A big thank you to Fred, Mike and Cheryl for giving up their chance to race in order to do the timing. After the race everyone gathered at “Purgys” for awards;
• 1st Place - on a K2 went to Luke Van Maldeghem, he received an ASA plaque and a back pack.
• 2nd Place - on a Brenter went to Travis Wolfe, he received an ASA plaque and ski pants.
• 3rd Place - on a Brenter went to Roy Meiworm. he received an ASA plaque and a helmet.
• 4th Place - on a WinterXbike went to Matt Hanson
=A box of Balance Bars went to Don Koski for “Best Fall” after he somehow managed to avoid all the gates – he could definitely use a bar or 2.
=Start time for the (short) downhill speedbike runs was 2:00, again on Upper Hades. Two runs clocked by a radar gun would single out the fastest rider. Terrific times and perfect powder plants took place.
=We met in the conference room at 4:30 for awards. The Koski team shined, with Ryan and Matt hitting 50 MPH and Loren 49 MPH. Everyone received an official ASA certificate with the fastest time noted. Lanyards, t-shirts, socks and Balance Bars were passed out as prizes. Entrants and times are listed below:
The Slalom results are listed as time in seconds with the Downhill as MPH. The finishing
